چکیده
Abstract Under the presupposition that human time perception is distorted in intertemporal choice, this study constructs a scale framework of axiomatic measurement. First, conditions (homogeneity degree one or two) to identify form are proposed so can determine whether hyperbolic exponential more suitable function for modeling people’s discounting. Homogeneity implies subjective delay measured by power and its discount becomes power-exponential type, whereas homogeneity two log type. Second, method shown constructing model reflect subadditive superadditive A non-commutative non-associative concatenation operation provided generate string consisting subdivided durations incorporates effect repeated with duration. The discounting yielded substituting these strings an equipped generalized scale, determination subadditivity superadditivity depends on value product is, respectively, smaller greater than usual extensive structure.

Hyperbolic discounting and the standard model: Eliciting discount functions
Experiments on static intertemporal choice nd evidence of particularly extreme impatience toward immediate rewards. While this is often taken as support for hyperbolic discounting, it could also arise because the most likely participants in experiments are also those with the most immediate need for money. We conduct a calibration exercise and nd that the extreme impatience observed in experi...
متن کاملUncertainty and Hyperbolic Discounting
Empirical studies in economics and behavioral ecology suggest that, ceteris paribus, animals and humans appear to place less weight on the future than on the present, i.e., they act as though they discount future payoffs. Furthermore (and more interestingly), they do so with discount rates that increase as the time before those payoffs are realized grows shorter. In other words, subjects act as...
متن کاملGlobal warming and hyperbolic discounting
The use of a constant discount rate to study long-lived environmental problems such as global warming has two disadvantages: the prescribed policy is sensitive to the discount rate, and with moderate discount rates, large future damages have almost no effect on current decisions. Timeconsistent quasi-hyperbolic discounting alleviates both of these modeling problems, and is a plausible descripti...
متن کاملModeling Alternatives to Exponential Discounting
One area that is often overlooked by economists and social scientists is discounting. Most economic models of intertemporal choice make use of Samuelson’s (1937) DU model which leads to an exponential discount function. Divergences from what economic modelling predicts and empirical findings are on the most part attributed to factors other than the discount function employed. We review the lite...
متن کاملHyperbolic discounting and secondary markets
Does the existence of secondary markets for durable goods affect price and allocation on primary markets? We study competitive equilibria for durable goods where the possibility of future trade on secondary markets does not affect consumer behaviour in the primary market, provided consumers are exponential discounters. If consumers are hyperbolic discounters, however, secondary markets are no l...
